Verkhniaia Tura

a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR, on the upper reaches of the Tura River (Ob’ Basin). It is a railroad station (Verkhniaia) on the Serov-Nizhnii Tagil line. Population, 15,500 (1970). There is a mechanical technicum in the city. Verkhniaia Tura developed from a settlement near a major iron plant founded in 1737 and later transformed into a metalworking enterprise.
