Verkhniaia Zeia Plain

 

an elevated plain in the northern Amur region. Located in a depression up to 100 km wide between the Tukuringra and Dzhagdy ranges on the south and the Stanovoi Range on the north. Elevation, up to 500 m; length, approximately 300 km.

The Verkhniaia Zeia Plain is composed of lacustrine and fluvial deposits of the Neocene and Anthropogenic periods. The climate is severe continental; annual precipitation is 500-600 mm, with the maximum in the summer. The plain is drained by the upper reaches of the Zeia River. Permanently frozen rock is widespread. Larch taiga on podzolic soils and mari (swampy, sparse larch forests) are predominant.
