Verkhnii Tagil

a city (until 1966, a settlement) in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR. Located in the upper reaches of the Tagil River (Tobol basin). Terminal station of a branch of the Sverdlovsk-Goroblagodatskaia railroad line. Population, 14,400 (1968). The city has a state regional power plant, a structural-components combine, a furniture factory, a poultry farm, and an evening power engineering technicum.
