(pin'sĕr grasp) A grasp pattern emerging in the 10th-12th month whereby a small object is held between the distal pads of the opposed thumb and index or middle finger. The metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints of the index finger are slightly flexed, whereas the distal interphalangeal joint is extended.
