St. Marys

 

a river in North America. The St. Marys River flows out of Lake Superior and empties into Lake Huron in two branches; forms a border between the USA and Canada. It is 112 km long and drains an area of 210,000 sq km. The mean flow rate is 2,120 cu m per sec. The St. Marys River is a link of the Great Lakes waterway system; canals with locks have been built around the rapids. Two cities, both named Sault St. Marie—one in Canada and one in the USA—are situated on the river.
