Academic Medical Centre

A health care facility that is often linked to a medical school and/or university complex and closely affiliated with or part of a degree-granting university. There are 120 to 380 academic medical centers in the US, depending on one’s definition.

Additional components, AMCs Schools for other health professions—nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and allied health professions—and other clinical entities—faculty group practices, community health centres, nursing homes and, increasingly, community-based networks of practitioners.
