Valerii Alekseevich Kuznetsov

Kuznetsov, Valerii Alekseevich

 

Born Apr. 12, 1906, in Nikol’sk, in present-day Vologda Oblast. Soviet geologist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970; corresponding member, 1958).

Upon graduating from the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute in 1932, Kuznetsov worked in a number of geological institutions of Western Siberia. He also worked at the Institute of Mining and Geology of the West Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1945 and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1958. His basic works are devoted to the tectonic structure, magmatism, and metallogeny of the Altai-Saian folded area. Kuznetsov has been awarded two orders and several medals.
