Academies of Architecture

the highest scholarly institutions in architecture uniting the most prominent masters of architecture. These academies function as scholarly and creative centers and as the most advanced art schools. The first architectural academy, Académie d’Architecture, was founded in France in 1671 in connection with the state’s effort to regulate artistic life. In 1823 the Royal Hibernian Academy of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture was created in Ireland; in 1908 the Academy of Architecture was founded in the Netherlands. In the German Democratic Republic, the German Construction Academy has been functioning since 1951.

The Academy of Architecture of the USSR was founded in 1934 and the Academy of Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR in 1945. In 1956 they were replaced by the Academy of Construction and Architecture of the USSR and the Academy of Construction and Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR; both existed until 1964.
