Shunen

Shunen

 

a natural region in Japan, situated in the southern coastal part of the island of Honshu, between the Izu Peninsula and Ise Bay. Small alluvial lowlands and estuarine river debris cones are divided by mountain spurs and the ledges of shore terraces. The climate is subtropical and monsoonal. The average temperature on the coast is 5°C in January and 26°C in August. Annual precipitation exceeds 2,000 mm and reaches its maximum in summer. The slopes have evergreen forests. Rice is cultivated on the plains, and there are tea and citrus plantations in the foothills. The cities of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, and Shimizu are located in Shunen.
