Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park
Location:35 miles northwest of Kingsport, Tennessee in the Appalachian Mountains.
Facilities:Picnic areas, self-guiding trail, visitor center, gift shop.
Activities:Interpretive programs.
Special Features:Museum contains exhibits chronicling the exploration and development of the town and surrounding area during the 1890s coal boom. The four-story mansion was started as a neighborhood attraction by Congressman C. Bascom Slemp. It was opened as a state museum in 1948.
