Stock selection

Stock selection

An active portfolio management technique that focuses on advantageous selection of particular stock rather than on broad asset allocation choices.

Stock Selection

An investment strategy that involves buying stocks and placing them in a portfolio according to the perceived strengths of the individual stocks. That is, one does not hedge by buying similar stocks, diversify by buying different industries, or anything else. A stock selection strategy runs the risk of not being sufficiently diversified. However, if the individual stocks perform well, the strategy can result in large gains.
