释义 | Stockton, John PotterStockton, John Potter(1826–1900) U.S. senator; born in Princeton, N.J. After serving as U.S. ambassador to Italy, he was elected to the U.S. Senate (Dem., N.J.; 1865–66), but his right to take the seat was challenged. Forced to forfeit his seat, he was later reelected (1869–75). He then returned to New Jersey where he served as attorney general (1877–97). |
