a city in Rumania, in Mures District. Sovata is a climatic and pelotherapeutic health resort in the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians. Winters are mild, with an average January temperature of –3.4°C, and summers are warm, with an average August temperature of 18.7°C. Annual precipitation is approximately 700 mm. Therapeutic remedies include the brine and mud of Lakes Ursu and Negru. The climate is conducive to good health. Treatment is provided for persons suffering from gynecologic disorders and from the aftereffects of traumas and diseases of the peripheral nervous system, bones, muscles, and joints. Sovata has sanatoriums, houses of rest, a mud-treatment facility, a bathhouse, and heliothermal baths.
