Sovetskaia Etnografiia
(Soviet Ethnography), a journal published by the Institute of Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Sovetskaia etnografiia replaced the journal Etnografiia, which was published from 1926 to 1930. Four issues of Sovetskaia etnografiia were published in 1931, six issues every year between 1932 and 1936, and four issues in 1937. Periodical collections were published under the same name between 1938 and 1947 (the last issue was no. 6/7). The publication of the journal resumed in 1946, with four issues being published annually until 1956. Sovetskaia elnografiia has been published six times a year since 1957.
Sovetskaia etnografiia publishes articles and reviews on the ethnography of the peoples of the USSR and other countries, the history of the science of ethnography, and criticizes the reactionary trends in bourgeois ethnography. It also publishes research findings in anthropology, folklorism, ethnogeography, archaeology, and linguistics and articles on the ethnographic work conducted by the museums of scientific institutions of the Union republics and foreign countries.
