(Soviets of People’s Deputies), a monthly sociopolitical journal, published in Moscow since July 1957. Between July 1957 and November 1977, it was called Sovety deputatov trudiashchikhsia (Soviets of Working People’s Deputies). The journal deals with the theory and practice of soviet construction, the activity of deputies, and the work of the organs of state power and government in the fields of economics, culture, education, public health, social security, housing and public utility services, finances, public services, and trade. It publishes commentaries on legislation and provides advice and answers to readers’ questions. It also deals with the work of the organs of state power and government in other socialist countries, and the practices of bourgeois parliamentarism. In 1976 the journal was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. Circulation, more than 700,000 (1978). [24–135–1 ; updated]
