Puno is also an archaeological center for the exploration of ancient villages of indigenous peoples. A technical institute is located in the city.
Puno
a city in southeastern Peru and capital of Puno Department. Population, 41,200 (1972). Situated on the western shore of Lake Titicaca, Puno is Peru’s main port on the lake. It is the terminus of the Mollendo-Puno railroad. A significant portion of Bolivia’s export-import cargo passes through the city. Puno has a shipyard and light-industry enterprises. There is a university in the city.
