Aktash
(before 1967 a settlement), a city and the administrative center of Narpaiskii Raion, Samarkand Oblast, Uzbek SSR, in the Zeravshan River valley. The Zirabulak railroad station on the Kagan-Samarkand line serves Aktash. Population 15,000 (1968). Industry includes a machine repair plant, a cotton ginning plant, and a cheese and butter factory. A lumber-processing combine and building-materials enterprises were under construction in 1969.

Aktash
a mountain resort in the Uzbek SSR, located at an elevation of 1,137 km, 62 km southwest of Tashkent. Summers are hot (average temperature in July of 23°C), and winters are mild (average temperature in January of -3°C). The air temperature averages 9.8°C annually, and precipitation is about 880 mm per year. The resort is used by patients with nontubercular respiratory ailments and functional ailments of the nervous system. The sanatorium is open from May 15 to October 10.
