Soviet-Senegalese Agreements

Diplomatic relations were established between the USSR and Senegal on June 14, 1962. On the same day agreements were signed on trade and economic and technical cooperation, and a convention was signed on cultural cooperation.

By an exchange of notes of Oct. 24, Nov. 20, and Nov. 29, 1963, the two countries concluded an agreement on the transport of diplomatic mail without couriers. On Mar. 22, 1965, the countries signed an agreement on maritime fishing and a protocol appended to the prior agreement on economic and technical cooperation, whereby Senegal was granted a long-term credit on favorable terms for the financing of design work, delivery of equipment, and construction of a fish cannery and fishing vessels. In addition, there was an agreement on air transportation (July 31, 1965) and a protocol on deliveries of machinery and equipment to Senegal (Aug. 25, 1967).

On Dec. 29, 1969, another protocol was appended to the agreement on economic and technical cooperation to provide for rendering assistance to Senegal in geological prospecting work, the delivery of equipment, and the sending of Soviet specialists. On July 23, 1975, a protocol was signed dealing with cultural cooperation for 1975–76.
