Soviets of Soldiers Deputies

Soviets of Soldiers’ Deputies

elective political organizations that were first established in several places in Russia during the Revolution of 1905–07. The soviets of soldiers’ deputies were modeled on the soviets of workers’ deputies. During the February Revolution of 1917, they were organized as bodies of revolutionary power. In most cases, integrated soviets of workers’ and soldiers’ deputies were formed. At the front, the functions of the soviets were performed by soldiers’ committees (seeSOVIETS OF WORKING PEOPLE’s DEPUTIES).
