Soviets of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies

 

elective political organizations of the workers and soldiers of Russia that were organized during the February Revolution of 1917. After the victory of the October Revolution of 1917, the soviets of workers’ and soldiers’ deputies became bodies of power of the working people. They were modeled on the soviets of workers’ deputies of 1905–07. By October 1917, having followed a complex path of development, the soviets of workers’ and soldiers’ deputies had become Bolshevik. With the establishment of Soviet power, the soviets of peasants’ deputies merged with the soviets of workers’ and soldiers’ deputies, forming a unified system of soviets of workers’, soldiers’, and peasants’ deputies.
