Soviet-Swiss Agreements

In gross violation of the norms of international relations, the Swiss government refused to accept responsibility for the assassination of V. V. Vorovskii, the Soviet delegate to the Lausanne Conference of 1922–23. The Soviet government was compelled to declare an economic boycott of Switzerland. The Swiss government agreed on Apr. 14, 1927, to meet the Soviet Union’s minimum demands, and the boycott was lifted on May 4, 1927.

The two countries signed a trade agreement on Feb. 24, 1941. Diplomatic relations between the USSR and Switzerland were established on Mar. 18, 1946. The USSR and Switzerland concluded a commercial treaty (Mar. 17, 1948) and agreements on air transportation (June 8, 1967) and on mutual exemption from taxes of maritime and air transportation enterprises (Jan. 18, 1968).
