A German term for a publicly-traded company. The term is used in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Interestingly, Aktiengesellschaft companies in Germany have two boards of directors, a supervisory board that is roughly equivalent to an American or British board, and a management board, which is subordinate but is responsible for the company's day-to-day operations. It is abbreviated as A.G.
