Vishtak, Stepanida Demidovna

 

Born Oct. 17, 1918, in the village of Losiatin, Vasil’kov Raion, Kiev Oblast. A harvester of outstanding yields of cereal crops and sugar beets and field team leader of the kolkhoz Radians’ka Ukraina of Vasil’kov Raion; twice a Hero of Socialist Labor (1949 and 1952). Member of the CPSU since 1950.

In 1948, Vishtak’s team harvested 33.6 metric centners of wheat per hectare (over an area of 21 hectares [ha]), and in 1949, 38.3 metric centners (20 ha); the harvest of corn in 1950 was 76.9 metric centners per ha (10 ha), and in 1951, 78 metric centners (10 ha). In 1950 a record harvest of sugar beets was achieved—683 metric centners per ha (3.5 ha). For the period 1965-67, Vishtak’s team harvested 370-460 metric centners of sugar beets per ha. She was a delegate to the 20th through 23rd Congresses of the CPSU, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Ukraine since 1966, and a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR at the fourth through eighth convocations. She has been awarded six orders of Lenin, as well as medals.
