[′pəp·əs ′ā] (astronomy) An extended, nonthermal radio source, the remnant of a supernova that exploded about 10,000 years ago, about 1.8 kiloparsecs (3.5 × 1016 miles or 5.6 × 1016 kilometers) from the earth.
