Pirenga Reservoir

 

a reservoir in Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR. It has an area of 227 sq km, a volume of 3 cu km, a length of 58 km, a maximum width of 8 km, and an average depth of 13 m. The water level fluctuates within 5 m. The Pirenga Reservoir was created in 1938 by damming up Lakes Verkhniaia Pirenga (area, 88.7 sq km), Kumuzhskaia Salma (12.4 sq km), and Nizhniaia Pirenga (58.5 sq km) at the source of the Pirenga River (Niva River basin). The reservoir regulates the flow rate of the Niva Hydroelectric System.
