[′skäl·ə·piŋ] (geology) A sedimentary structure superficially resembling an oscillation ripple mark, and having a concave side that is always oriented toward the top of the bed. Also known as scallop. (navigation) Cyclical variations in the apparent guidance path generated by a four-course radio range or instrument landing system, at speeds greater than can be followed by the vehicle.

A VOR (very high frequency omnidirectional radio-range) bearing error caused by the distortion of propagation over uneven terrain. It is often evidenced by a rhythmic swaying of the left or right VOR needle. Also called the bends.
