Sibutramine was approved for use as a dietary adjunct in the mid-1990s and was heavily marketed until 2010, when it was withdrawn from the market due to the increased risk of cardiovascular events and strokes associated with its use. Sibutramine is a Schedule-IV Controlled Substance.Indications Obese patients with an initial BMI of ≥ 30 kg/m2 or ≥ 27 kg/m2 in addition to other factors (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia). Adverse effects Headache, dry mouth, anorexia, constipation.
