a city in southeastern France, in Savoie Department; situated in the Alps, in the valley of the Aries River (a tributary of the Isère). Population, 8,000 (1968). Ugine is a center of electro-metallury and electrochemistry. Plants of the Pechiney Ugine Kuhlmann Company (PUK) are located in the city.
