restraint of lower extremities

restraint of lower extremities

Physical restraint of movement of the legs and feet. A sheet is tied across the knees and the feet are tied together with a figure-eight bandage. The correct method is to start the loop under the ankles, cross it between the feet, bring the ends around the feet, and tie them on top.

CAUTION!

The restraint should not interfere with blood circulation to an extremity and should be padded to prevent injury to soft tissue.
