Pkhachich

Pkhachich

(pkh”achych) an Adygeian and Kabardin-Balkar percussion instrument. A type of rattle, the pkhachich consists of three, five and seven dried hardwood strips, tied loosely at one end to a similar strip that has a handle. Shaking the pkhachich produces a dry, clicking sound. The instrument is usually 150–165 mm long and 45–50 mm wide. It is used to bring out the rhythm in song or dance melodies.
