Akylbekov, Sabyrbek Mambetsadykovich
Born Mar. 15, 1914, in the village of Orto, now in the Kalinin Raion of Kirghiz SSR. One of the first Soviet Kirghiz painters; Honored Art Worker of the Kirghiz SSR (1958). Member of the CPSU since 1961.
Akylbekov studied at the Moscow 1905 Memorial Fine Arts Technicum (1936–39) under N. P. Krymov and P. I. Petrovichev. He paints lyrical and emotional landscapes: On the Fields of Kirghizia (1954), In South Kirghizia (1964), and The Factory Line (1966)—all of which are in the Kirghiz Museum of Fine Arts in Frunze. His painting Haystacks (1958) is in the Tret’iakov Gallery. He has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
