Putna Chronicle

Putna Chronicle

the oldest Moldavian chronicle, written in Old Church Slavonic during the second half of the 15 th and early 16th centuries. Its original version, known as the Annals of Stephen’s Court, has not survived. The Annals recorded the history of Moldavia from 1354 to 1486. The Putna Chronicle exists in two copies. The first copy, kept in the Saltykov-Shchedrin library in Leningrad, covers events down to 1518, and the second copy, held in the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in Kiev, continues the narrative to 1526. The chronicle deals primarily with the reign of the hospo-dar Stephen the Great (1457–1504).
