Voznitsyn, Prokopii

Voznitsyn, Prokopii Bogdanovich

Dates of birth and death unknown. Russian diplomat of the last third of the 17th century.

Voznitsyn was descended from the gentry of the Vladimir area. He began his diplomatic activity in the 1660’s and 1670’s. In the Great Embassy of 1697-98 he was the third ambassador, and he represented Russia at the Congress of Karlowitz in 1698-99, where he insisted upon Russian annexation of Kerch and of the former Turkish fortresses of Azov and Kazykermen, occupied by Russian armed forces. In complex circumstances Voznitsyn succeeded in concluding a two-year truce with Turkey in January 1699. Upon his return to Russia he assisted in the preparation of E. Ukraintsev’s embassy to Turkey and negotiated with foreign ambassadors in Moscow. At the same time he headed the Aptekarskii Prikaz (Pharmaceutical Department).
