Schedule for Deficit Syndrome
An instrument for dividing schizophrenic patients into those with or without deficit syndrome.SDS Criteria
Criterion 1
Negative symptoms:
• Restricted affect;
• Diminished emotional range;
• Poverty of speec;
• Curbing of interests;
• Diminished sense of purpose;
• Diminished social drive.
Criterion 2
Two or more negative symptoms (above) present for the preceding 12 months, and always present during periods of clinical stability.
Criterion 3
Negative symptoms are primary—i.e., not secondary to factors other than the disease process (e.g., anxiety, drug effect, depression, suspiciousness and other psychotic symptoms).
Criterion 4
Patient must be schizophrenic per DSM-IV criteria.
