UIMC1

UIMC1

A gene on chromosome 5q35.2 that encodes a ubiquitin-binding protein which plays a key role in the BRCA1-A complex by binding 'Lys-63'-linked ubiquitinated histones H2A and H2AX at DNA lesion sites, targeting the BRCA1-BARD1 heterodimer to sites of double-strand breaks in DNA damage. It may indirectly downregulate transcription by inhibiting the interaction of NR6A1 with the co-repressor NCOR1. UIMC1 interacts with TSP57, ESR1, NR6A1, UBE2I and FAM175A/Abraxas; it is expressed in the testes, ovaries, thymus and heart.
