Schiff, Leonard I. (Isaac)

(1915–71) physicist; born in Fall River, Mass. He performed research at the University of California: Berkeley (1937–40), the University of Pennsylvania (1940–45), and Los Alamos (1945–47), before joining Stanford (1947–66). A major contributor to research in theoretical nuclear physics, relativity, and gravitation, he was a proponent of extensive experimental testing of Einsteinian theory.
