An·tho·my·i·a ca·ni·cu·la·'ris

a small black horsefly, the larvae of which have been reported as accidental parasites in the intestine of humans, being hatched there from the ingested eggs; symptoms of gastroenteric irritation may be caused by it; adult flies may occasionally act as vectors for the eggs of the tropical warblefly or botfly, Dermatobia hominis, resulting in myiasis.
