Signed Promise Not to Depart
(undertaking not to depart), in the USSR, a measure of restraint that consists in enjoining an accused person (suspect) from leaving his place of residence or temporary location without authorization from the person conducting the inquiry, the investigator, the procurator, or the court. If the accused person (suspect) violates his signed promise not to depart, a stricter measure of restraint may be applied, including confinement under guard; this must be announced when obtaining the signed promise not to depart.
