Schizognathism
Schizognathism a type of structure of the palate in birds, in which the maxillopalatals are not united with one another or with the vomer, the posterior part of which is bifurcated, and the anterior part, pointed. Schizognathism, a form of neognathism, is characteristic of Procellariiformes, Galliformes, Columbiformes, and the majority of Limicolae. |
