Schizophytes

Schizophytes

(Schizophyta), the general name for bacteria and blue-green algae. Most classifiers consider these groups as independent divisions, or types. Schizophytes are characterized by the absence of a morphologically distinct cell nucleus and a true sexual process; they reproduce only asexually. Viruses, rickettsiae, actinomycetes, mycoplasms, spirilla, spirochetes, and schizophytes are all considered procaryote, as opposed to eucaryote organisms, which have morphologically defined nuclei. Instead of a nucleus, schizophytes have a chromatin formation called a nucleoid, which is not limited by a differentiated membrane and is of changeable form.
