Schlesinger, Frank

(1871–1943) astronomer; born in New York City. An astronomer at the Yerkes Observatory (1903–05), he also directed the University of Pittsburgh's Allegheny Observatory (1905–20) and the Yale University Observatory (1920–41). This much-honored astronomer compiled a catalogue of 4,000 stellar distances (1935) and wrote monographs about photographic methods and stellar parallaxes.

Born May 11, 1871, in New York; died July 10,1943, in Connecticut. American astronomer.

Schlesinger’s principal works dealt with photographic astrometry. He developed a technique for determining stellar parallaxes and compiled a number of catalogs of stellar positions that were determined with wide-angle astrographs designed after his idea.
