Revda
a city (since 1935) under oblast jurisdiction in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR. Located in the Central Urals, on a man-made lake and on the Revda River at its confluence with the Chusovaia River. Railroad station on the Kazan-Sverdlovsk line, 43 km west of Sverdlovsk. Population, 61,000 (1975; 32,000 in 1939).
Located in Revda are the Central Urals Copper Plant, which processes ore from the Degtiarka deposit, a plant for the processing of nonferrous metals, and a metallurgical plant producing general metal goods. Mineral fertilizers and building materials are also manufactured in Revda. The city has an evening mining and metallurgy technicum and a medical school. Revda arose in the first half of the 18th century in conjunction with the construction of a metallurgical plant, which was completed in 1734.
