Schmidt, Benno

Schmidt, Benno (Charles)

(1913– ) financier; born in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1936 and taught law there and at Harvard before serving in the army during World War II. He joined J. H. Whitney & Co. (New York City) in 1946, rising to become a managing partner. He supported many charitable and artistic causes. A son, Benno Schmidt Jr., was president of Yale University.
