Schmoke, Kurt (Lidell)

(1949– ) lawyer, mayor, public official; born in Baltimore, Md. Appointed by President Jimmy Carter to the White House domestic policy staff (1977–78), he served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland (1978–82), Maryland's state attorney (1982–87) and as Baltimore's mayor (1988). He founded the Baltimore Community Development Financing Corporation in 1988.
