Union Chimique Belge
a Belgian chemical monopoly. Founded in 1925 through the merger of four companies, the Union Chimique Beige is one of Belgium’s major industrial companies. It is controlled by the Société Générale de Belgique financial group. In addition to pharmaceuticals, it manufactures chemicals, plastics, cellulose, and related products. In 1976, the company had a turnover of $438 million and a net profit of $3.7 million; it employed 9,700 people.
