Vladimir Georgiev

Georgiev, Vladimir

 

Born Feb. 3, 1908, in the village of Gabare. Bulgarian linguist. Specialist in general and Indo-European linguistics. Member of the Bulgarian Communist Party since 1945.

A professor at the University of Sofia, Georgiev is a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1952) and the recipient of honorary doctorates from the universities of Vienna and Berlin. His chief works are Studies in Comparative and Historical Linguistics (1958) and An Introduction to the History of the Indo-European Languages (1966). Georgiev was awarded the Dimitrov Prize in 1951 and 1969.
