Plast

(1) The Russian designation for newly plowed virgin lands, long fallow, short-term fallow, and perennial grasslands. The soil is well structured and is rich in root residue and humus. It contains relatively few pests, agents of disease, and weed seeds. Valuable agricultural crops, including wheat (especially durum wheat), flax, and millet, are raised on plast.

(2) The Russian designation for a strip of excessively moist soil of heavy texture (clay) or with perennial grassy vegetation formed by plowing with the plow body. Mature, light-textured (sandy) soil crumbles easily and does not form plasty.
