Silage Loader

Silage Loader

a machine for removing silage and haylage from ground storage areas, such as piles and half-buried trenches, chopping the material into smaller pieces, and loading the pieces into vehicles or feed distributors. A silage loader can also be used to load hay and straw.

The USSR produces a cutter-type silage loader for mounting on 1.4-ton tractors. The principal working elements are the cutter drums, which are lifted onto the pile by means of a hydraulic cylinder. The drums revolve and gradually drop, cutting away a layer of silage and throwing it into a receiving scoop, where an auger feeds it to a blower. The silage is caught up by the blades of the blower rotor and is fed through an unloading tube into the vehicle bed. The silage loader has a capacity of up to 17 tons/hr. Various designs of bucket-type loaders are also used. Similar machines are used abroad for loading silage into transport vehicles.
