Silal

Silal

a heat-resistant pig iron with a high silicon content (5–6 percent). Silal is produced in two forms in the USSR: one form has laminar graphite and the other has spherical graphite. Relatively inexpensive cast parts that operate under high temperatures (800–900°C) can be made of Silal, for example, doors of open-hearth furnaces, fire bars, and parts for steam boilers.
