Silaum
a genus of perennial herbaceous plants of the family Umbelliferae. The leaves are two to four times pinnate. Calyx teeth are absent. The petals are yellowish, and the fruits are elongated. There are about ten species, distributed in the temperate zone of Eurasia. Three species are found in the USSR, in the middle and southern belts of the European USSR, in Ciscaucasia, in the southern part of Western Siberia, and in Middle Asia. The pepper saxifrage (Silaum silaus) grows in the steppes and in saline soils. Its fruits contain an essential oil.
